Our Mission

So. many may be wondering, what is Swerve's mission...what's it really all about. Thought we'd take some time to discuss this inquiry.

To draw people to a real, authentic and life-changing relationship with Christ.

Our very name says a lot. Swerve means: an abrupt change in direction. It's what we're believing to see in many lives. An abrupt change in a life far from God to a growing relationship with him.

So, our mission is to simply do whatever it takes to see that change in people's lives. That means anything from an explosive worship experience to a relevant and Biblical study that's both easy to understand and applicable to our everyday lives.

Intentional Community

This means that we look for opportunities to serve our community locally. Why? So that our church could be well-known for it's good deeds? No way! It's our way of being Jesus' hands and feet and truly living out what we say.

It also means being intentional about relationships. Serving our community, but also each others needs. Meeting up in life groups to pray with one another, study the Bible, but also just to meet new friends and to just be there for each other. We weren't made to do life alone.

Come join us at Covenant House for a special Thanksgiving celebration!

Would you like to play a special part in this day? We're looking for people to cook a dish to share with the youth of Covenant House. Not a great cook? We also need people to come and serve the food and beverages.

Here's some of the food we'd like to bring:
- Rice
- Chicken
- Pasta (ziti, lasagna)
- Mashed potatoes
- Salad
- Desserts (cake, cupcakes, jello, pumpkin/apple pie)
- Beverages (soda, juice)

We will definitely also need:
- Plastic utensils (spoons, forks)
- Plastic cups
- Napkins
- Foam plates

Join The Swerve Church Launch Team

Swerve Church is a new church plant coming soon to the Williamsburg area of Brooklyn. We're looking for people to join the Launch Team as we continue to make preparations.

If you have a passion for serving the community, would love to be a part of something bigger than yourself or want to use your gifts and talents to see the advancement of the Gospel, we have a place for you on our Launch Team.

What is the Launch Team?

The Launch Team is a team of individuals with a passion for seeing lives changed through the life-transforming power of Christ. The Launch Team will meet up regularly to discuss vision and strategy as well as to continue to make preparations for the big launch of Swerve Church.

Swerve Church is still in the early stages of preparation and we know that having a strong group of people to launch with is vital. If you have a passion for seeing lives come to know Christ through a practical relationship with him and would like to be a part of something new and exciting, then please contact us. Audacious Faith

We thought it'd be great to share some key points from "Sun Stand Still" authored by Pastor Steven Furtick of Elevation Church located in Charlotte, NC.

Needless to say, the points we're going to put up really blessed our socks off! And we're pretty sure it will bless you as well! Enjoy!

These points were all taken straight from Pastor Steven's blog.

• Revelation brings isolation. Sometimes no one is going to fully understand what God is doing inside of you.
• Quit asking for guidance and start asking for God to be your Guide.
• Answer all of the devil’s “what ifs” with a “so what.”
• Perry Noble: “If your not doing what God called you to do right now, your wasting your life.”
•  What do you do when you have limited input, but big dreams? You have audacious faith in your limited area of responsibility.
• Stop waiting for what you want. Work what you’ve got.
• Wanna see a dream die? Send it to a church committee.
• I believe God puts you exactly where you need to be to do exactly what he wants you to do.
• Faith not only prays, it pursues.
• There will never be a shortage in God’s supply. There will only be a shortage in your capacity to believe Him.
• Dress up for the place you’re going instead of dressing down for where you are.
• Maybe the reason no one else is doing something is that God has reserved it for you to do.

There's so much more to share and all of it is great. We just chose a few of our favorite's and some that really helps us as we continue in our vision of planting a new church. What the Swerve???

Soooo...a lot of people have been asking me "why Swerve?" and "what does it mean?" I'm sure you have even asked yourself!

Here's the definition.

SWERVE: an abrupt change in direction.

A Need, A Burden, A Calling

Hey Swerver’s. I just wanted to leave some words of encouragement to the early followers of the Swerve Church website.

Pastor Craig Groeschel of LifeChurch.tv started a new series on the book of Nehemiah called "Change Your World in 52 Days".

One of the points Pastor Craig made about the story of Nehemiah was how he was so troubled by a burden he felt to rebuild the walls of his hometown which was destroyed. Nehemiah was an ordinary guy with an extraordinary calling which all came out from a need that had to be filled.

In so many ways, Swerve Church was birthed the same way. A burden, a need, a calling...this all contributes to God's prompting to start Swerve Church. This is so great because we are just ordinary people who otherwise would not be able to accomplish no such feat. But with God all things are possible.

If you feel God's prompting to contribute and be a part of something bigger than yourself then come and join the Swerve Church team. Swerve means "and abrupt change in direction"; and this is what we want to be a part of in our community. To see change and meet a spiritual need.
